JUST IN: Sowore slams DSS for asking X to deactivate his account

A former presidential candidate and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of attempting to silence him by requesting that X (formerly Twitter) deactivate his verified account. In a post on Sunday, Sowore said he was not surprised by the “ridiculously crafted” letter the DSS sent to X, demanding his account be taken down within 24 hours. He alleged that the move was a continuation of efforts by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to suppress dissent. “I woke up to yet another act of national disgrace, an assault on institutions, and on common sense,” Sowore wrote. He claimed that last week, hired protesters marched around the federal high court and the ministry of justice, calling on the DSS to arrest him.
Sowore alleged that the regime has repeatedly used security agencies to harass and persecute him. He cited his arrest during the #EndBadGovernance protest, a travel ban allegedly imposed by the Nigerian Immigration Service, the seizure of his passport, and what he described as trumped-up charges filed against him. The activist also accused the police of breaking into his cell and injuring him, adding that he was falsely accused of terrorism financing in court. “To now export this disgrace to Twitter in the US shows how far Nigeria has sunk into the hands of its most incompetent and dysfunctional citizens,” he said. Sowore likened the situation to his experiences under former President Muhammadu Buhari, saying the same tactics were used against him but eventually failed.
