The Premier League could have up to seven teams in the UEFA Champions League next season. As it stands, England is already guaranteed of five spots in the competition. This was confirmed after Arsenal crushed Real Madrid 3-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final clash. The Gunners went on to win 2-1 at the Bernabeu and will now face Paris Saint-Germain in the semis. Manchester United will earn a spot in the Champions League if they win the Europa League. Ruben Amorim’s side are currently 14th in the league and almost stand no chance of getting any European ticket for next season. But they are in the semi-finals of the Europa League, following a thrilling 7-6 aggregate win over Lyon on Thursday. They will now take on Athletic Bilbao and should they progress past the Spanish side and win the final then they will earn that much-desired Champions League spot. Arsenal already looks set to qualify for the Champions League thanks to their league position – they are second behind champions-elect Liverpool. But should the Gunners drop out of the top five entirely over the coming weeks and win the Champions League, then they would return to the competition. Mikel Arteta’s side will face Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals after beating Real Madrid. Should that situation come true, that would see the top five and both the Europa League and Champions League winners qualify, giving the Premier League seven teams at Europe’s top table.
