JUST IN: FG Issues Alert on Heavy Rainfall, Flood Threat in 15 States

Post by Newsman »

Image The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Environment, has warned that 15 states across Nigeria may experience heavy rainfall and possible flooding over the next five days.

The ministry, in a statement issued on Thursday through its National Flood Early Warning Centre, said 43 locations nationwide have been identified as high-risk zones between September 4 and September 8, 2025.

It was signed by Usman Abdullahi Bokani, Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department.

The ministry noted that the risk has been worsened by climate change and poor drainage systems across many urban and rural areas.

Thursday’s notice listed states under alert to include Ebonyi (Afikpo); Cross River (Edor, Ikom, Itigidi, Akpap); Kano (Gwarzo, Karaye); Zamfara (Anka, Gummi, Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Shinkafi, Bukkuyum); Taraba (Dampar, Duchi, Garkowa, Gassol, Gembu, Gun Gun Bodel, Kambari, Mayo Ranewo, Mutum Biyu, Bandawa, Ngaruwa); Abia (Eziama, Umuahia); Yobe (Geidam, Kanama, Potiskum); and Plateau (Langtang, Shendam, Wase).

Others are Borno (Ngala); Imo (Okigwe, Otoko); Niger (Sarki Pawa); Sokoto (Sokoto, Wamakko, Isa, Shagari, Makira); Kaduna (Kafanchan); and Akwa Ibom (Oron). The article was originally published on Politics Nigeria.
